Halloween is just around the corner and what a better way to get into the spooky spirit than with Halloween themed cookies. This simple recipe shows step by step how to create three different cookie decorations with one cookie base. The cookies don’t have to be made from scratch and can be substituted by any box mix or pre made dough, what is important is the decoration.

Cookie Ingredients:

  • 2/34 cups of all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon of baking powder

  • 1 cup of butter, room temp

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • I’m a medium bowl, sift together all dry ingredients and set aside.

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix room temperature butter and sugar together till a cream like consistency is achieved. While stirring add in the egg and vanilla.

  • Add dry ingredients in small portions and continue to mix thoroughly until dough forms a ball.

  • Optional: place dough in plastic sheeting and wrap. Place in fridge for 45 minutes to make it easier to work with.

  • Take dough out of mixer and place on flour covered surface to roll.

  • Cut dough into tablespoon sizes and roll into small balls. Place each ball about an inch apart on greased pan and place in the oven.

  • Cook for 10-12 minutes or until edges begin to look golden.

  • Remove from the oven and place aside to cool until time to decorate.

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of powdered sugar

  • ½ cup of butter

  • 4 tablespoons of milk

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • Various food colorings

Directions:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whip together butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Add in vanilla and milk one tablespoon at a time to make sure frosting does not become to runny.

  • Separate batter into multiple bowls to add food coloring.

  • For this recipe we will be using green, black, orange, and white but if desired you can change the colors.

Pumpkin Cookies:

  • Take frosting into piping bag or use a small spatula.

  • Using the orange frosting create pumpkin like shape on cookie. Outline with black frosting and create face of preference.

  • With green create the steam if pumpkin.

Frankenstein Cookies:

  • Using green frosting cover half the cookie in semi circle shape.

  • Using black create the hair, eyes, and mouth.

Mummy Cookies:

  • Take white frosting and place all over cookie in overlapping stripes to look like mummy gauze.

  • Use the black frosting to create eyes.
